Rapper, Activist Nipsey Hussle Shot Dead

Rapper, Activist Nipsey Hussle Shot Dead

Rapper Ermias Asghedom, better known as Nipsey Hussle, was shot dead at age 33 on Sunday, March 31. The attack occurred outside of Marathon Clothing Company, his Hyde Park (Los Angeles) based retail store.

Hussle’s death has been described as beyond rap music. He was an activist who sought to better the lives of children in underprivileged companies and facilitated dialogue between law enforcement and community members. Hussle was more than a rap artist – he was a community leader and a necessary voice for the unprotected. In Nipsey Hussle’s own words, “I’m trying to take care of my people.”

One night after Hussle’s death, LAPD named 29-year-old Eric Holder as a suspect in connection with the death. During a Tuesday morning press conference, LAPD Chief Michel Moore stated that, ‘police believe the shooting was related to a dispute between Mr. Hussle and Mr. Holder’ and that “we believe they were known to each other.”

The LAPD Tweeted a news release on Monday with the following caption: “Eric Holder is wanted for Homicide in the shooting of Nipsey Hussle. He was last seen in a 2016 white 4 door Chevy Cruze CA license plate 7RJD742. Anyone with information related to his whereabouts or this deadly shooting is urged to contact South Bureau Homicide at 323-786-5100”
